On October 21, Scroll, the Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution, officially unveiled the criteria for its highly anticipated Season 1 airdrop, which will distribute SCR tokens to eligible users. A total of 70 million SCR tokens, equivalent to 7% of Scroll’s total supply of 1 billion SCR, have been allocated for the airdrop.

The majority of the tokens, 5.5% or 55 million SCR, will be distributed to users who have actively participated in on-chain activities. Of the 570,000 eligible wallets, users must hold at least 200 Badges to qualify for the airdrop. The token distribution is broken down as follows:

  • 40 million SCR (4% of total supply): Allocated to on-chain participants with over 200 Marks as of the snapshot date.
  • 10 million SCR (1% of total supply): Distributed equally among all eligible on-chain participants as a Flat Boost.
  • 5 million SCR (0.5% of total supply): Offered as an On-chain Bonus to participants who meet one of the following criteria:
    • Owning a high-level ENS (e.g., scroll.eth).
    • Donating to a Gitcoin or Juicebox campaign.
    • Using a smart contract wallet on Scroll.

Badges play a key role in determining a user’s Marks points, with rewards scaled across four tiers. Tier 4 participants, those owning more than 20 badges, receive the highest reward of 60 Marks points.

Aside from the 5.5% allocated to the Community Drop, 1.5% of the total SCR supply has been reserved for other groups, including:

  • 0.6977% of total supply: For projects building on Scroll, with a focus on growth and innovation.
  • 0.5% of total supply: For technical contributors, ZK researchers, and open-source developers supporting the Ethereum ecosystem.
  • 0.3235% of total supply: For global community organizers, hackathon winners, and Ethereum translators.

The airdrop will officially begin at 7:00 (UTC) on October 22, 2024, and the claim portal will remain open for 90 days. Eligible users can visit the Airdrop Claim page to receive their tokens.

Scroll, which leverages zk-Rollups and zero-knowledge proof technology, aims to enhance Ethereum’s scalability while preserving data privacy. The project has seen significant growth, raising $50 million in March 2023, pushing its valuation to $1.8 billion. With the successful deployment of its zkEVM product and the Darwin upgrade, which reduced gas fees, Scroll continues to position itself as a key player in the Ethereum Layer-2 ecosystem.

As of October 2024, Scroll’s protocol has accumulated over $1.3 billion in total value locked (TVL), placing it 5th among Ethereum Layer-2 solutions, ahead of competitors like ZKsync Era, Linea, and Starknet, according to L2Beat.

Despite allegations of cheating within the airdrop process, founder Sandy Peng assured the community that team members would not be eligible to receive airdrops to ensure fairness and transparency.

With the Season 1 airdrop, Scroll is set to further engage its growing community and strengthen its position in the Ethereum Layer-2 space.
