The cryptocurrency world is abuzz with anticipation following the release of a new trailer for HBO’s upcoming documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, which promises to unmask the elusive identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. The film, directed by Cullen Hoback, will premiere on October 9.
Since Bitcoin’s inception in 2009, the true identity of Satoshi has remained one of the greatest mysteries in both the financial and tech worlds. Satoshi’s Bitcoin wallet, which holds a staggering 1.1 million BTC, only adds to the intrigue. The documentary promises to dive deep into this mystery, and the crypto community is eager to see what revelations it may bring.
Director Cullen Hoback, known for his HBO miniseries Q: Into the Storm, has been tight-lipped about who Satoshi Nakamoto might be, but that hasn’t stopped speculation from running wild. On the prediction market Polymarket, 39.5% of traders are betting that the documentary will point to Len Sassaman, a renowned cryptographer and member of the Cypherpunks community, as Satoshi. Other names in the running include Hal Finney (4.3%), Adam Back (10.3%), and Nick Szabo (3.6%).
Alex Thorn, head of digital asset research at Galaxy Digital, also leans toward Len Sassaman being identified as Satoshi. Sassaman, a talented cryptography expert involved in projects like Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) software, tragically took his own life in 2011. His death occurred just two months after Satoshi’s last communication with the Bitcoin community, fueling further speculation.
While fans are eagerly awaiting the documentary’s release, many remain skeptical about whether it will truly solve the Satoshi mystery. All eyes are on Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, as the world waits to see if HBO will finally reveal the identity of the individual who created Bitcoin and changed the world forever.
