There has been a lot of confusion and debate in the cryptocurrency community about the upcoming HSMTR token airdrop from the tap-to-earn game Hamster Kombat. The airdrop is scheduled for September 26, 2024, and it has caused quite a stir among players.
Hamster Kombat recently announced that Season 1 of the game concluded with impressive statistics. Since its launch on March 26, 2024, over 300 million players have participated, and 131 million of them are eligible for the upcoming airdrop, which accounts for 43% of the total player base. Additionally, 2.3 million accounts have been banned for cheating.
Out of the total 75 billion HSMTR tokens, 75% is reserved for the game’s community. After Season 1, 60% of the total supply will be distributed, with the remaining 15% planned for Season 2. Players eligible for the airdrop will receive 88.75% of their tokens immediately after September 26, while the remaining 11.75% will be locked until July 26, 2025.
However, Hamster Kombat’s announcement has faced significant backlash. Players have criticized the sudden changes to airdrop criteria, especially the shift from using Profit Per Hour (PPH) as a key metric to focusing on collecting in-game Keys, which required substantial effort from participants. Many players feel that only those with large social followings, such as YouTubers and influencers, will benefit from the airdrop.
The project has also been accused of sending “Cheating is Bad” notices to users without providing evidence, leading to claims of an opaque anti-cheat system. This has prompted a boycott of the game and calls to report its social media channels.
In response to the growing criticism, many in the community demand a review of the airdrop’s criteria and an open dialogue with the developers. Despite initial expectations of being the “biggest airdrop in history,” the HSMTR token airdrop may face a rough reception due to the controversy surrounding it.
