Astar Network and Startale Labs, based in Singapore, have joined hands with Japanese telecom giant KDDI to propel the use of blockchain technology in society during the “Web3 era.” In their memorandum of understanding, the partnership aims to bring innovation to customer experiences using Astar Network’s Ethereum scaling solution called Astar zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM).

The collaboration will delve into new business possibilities related to token technology and applications, focusing on implementing Astar Network’s zkEVM in KDDI’s “αU” market. The “αU” market by KDDI encompasses Web3 services like the “αU market” and “αU wallet,” offering users a platform to manage and trade digital assets.

KDDI, a telecommunications giant with over 50 million subscribers in Japan and a global presence in 60 cities and 100 locations, is at the forefront of bringing these innovations to a vast audience.

The move aligns with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s vision for Japan, where he advocates for the adoption of digital finance and Web3 to stimulate the economy under the concept of “new capitalism.” Recognizing the potential of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), Kishida believes these technologies can contribute to Japan’s national strategy known as ‘Cool Japan,’ attracting investment and fostering economic growth.
